Hand printed illustrated picnic blanket that transforms into bag.

Only Cans bag and blanket

As part of my artwork project "Only Cans," I created a modern satire of Tennent's "Lager Lovelies" campaign (1962 - 1991), which was criticized for objectifying women and was later discontinued. My illustrations aim to challenge historical norms and stereotypes. Inspired by Scottish drinking culture, I transformed the artwork into a printed quilt, fashioned into a bag to symbolize women in a domestic nature. Additionally, I incorporated the idea that a can is a disposable and recyclable object, adding a thought-provoking layer to the artwork. As part of my research, I interviewed one of the campaign models who worked with Tennents from 1988 to 1991 to include phrases on the cans that feature Scottish slang, highlighting the girls' experiences of being embarrassed, having fun, and feeling cold while working on the campaign.

Campaign merchandise includes posters, stickers and a zine, available with every bag.
